Rinjani Seekers

What’s up Mountaineers!

My name is Joe Bakhier. I am the founder of Rinjani Seekers, and I would like to welcome you to my journey of life. After graduating from vocational high school and getting a diploma of tourism, I dared my seventeen-year-old self to embark on a tourism career as a hiking guide on Mount Rinjani.

I have been guiding and serving a countless number of hikers from around the world to climb Mount Rinjani. Having spent many years as a hiking guide has taught me tremendously to be an independent, caring, open-minded, and environmentally conscious person.

Making a living from the mountain has made me appreciate mother nature more than ever. Meeting new people from various cultural backgrounds has taught me to communicate accordingly and respect each other. Working in a team with other professionals such as hiking organizers, guides, and porters has truly opened my eyes and made me realize that a huge success of tourism greatly relies on teamwork and individuals involved in it.

My passion for tourism constantly escalated, so I decided to not only work professionally in this field, but also pursue a higher education studying English to support my language proficiency. Miraculously, a year after I obtained my Bachelor’s degree, I received a fully-funded scholarship in the United States of America where I studied Tourism and Business Management. This enormous milestone keeps encouraging me to make an impact by giving back to my community and the people of my country, specifically on Mount Rinjani, Lombok Island.

Now I have come to a realization that with this company, I am eager to execute my ideas to improve Lombok tourism and help other people elevate their lives. I have recruited local people to work as guides and porters and most of the foods consumed throughout the hike are bought from the local farmers. Hence, I assure you that hiking with Rinjani Seekers will not only provide you with a great experience of exploring nature, but also an opportunity for helping the local people on Lombok Island.
